Holy Spirit School Board News ‘09

“The mission of the Holy Spirit Consultative School Board is to provide advice and counsel to the pastor and school principal in areas of strategic planning, finance, policy formulation, evaluation, and communication, and to assist them in their implementation.”
The Holy Spirit Consultative School Board is more than just a fact finding, consultative body. It consists of nine committees which, under Principal Buchanan’s leadership, implement programs that deliver results. The committees are listed below with a synopsis of their 2008-2009 school year accomplishments.
1. Finance – Assisted with the financials transition to QuickBooks, built the tuition model for the 09-10 school year, documented each endowment fund, completed an investment plan to maximize school funds, evaluated the financial impact of expanding the preschool.
2. Grants - Successfully raised $20,000 from two private foundations to support Holy Spirit School program priorities. Exceeded goal of 4 proposals by submitting 6 grant proposals to foundations.
3.
Technology - Implemented the build out
of the computer network to encompass the entire campus, yielding a network that
literally "touches" every building on the school and parish campus,
replaced the school's 15+ year old network with a network with copper and fiber
optic cable capable of transporting data at gigabit per second speeds,
delivered a campus-wide telephone system based on IP telephony and deploying 63
telephones throughout the school.
4. Building & Grounds – Installed Smart Key system, upgraded Light Fixtures for Energy Efficiency, developed and implemented the plan to convert space under Church for School use as well as converting the computer lab into a teachers’ lounge and moving the Principal’s office to the old lounge. Installed ceiling fans in the classrooms.
5. Safety – Provided a campus wide earthquake evacuation drill, updated food, water and medical supplies in the safety bins, delivered fire extinguisher training along with earning CERT training. Delivered a ‘Safety Evacuation’ and ‘Man Power’ plan to meet the existing safety standards and staffing needs for the students to play on the grass fields during recess.
6. Stewardship, Public Relations & Development – Designed & printed new brochures for the school as well as the preschool, provided solution for picture taking policy, implemented Parent Talent database and began data entry on an Alumni database, and published the biannual school newsletters.
7. Mission Enhancement, Policy & Planning – Developed policy for handling needs assessment, a “Project Priority Process” and delivering an Electronic Communication Policy for inclusion into the School Handbook
